Practical Guide
Draw assignments online – without Excel chaos
Would you like to draw 1:1 assignments fairly - for example for Secret Santa, buddy roles, tandems or moderation tasks? With Wichtlify you can easily organize the draw online.
You create a group, enter all participants and let Wichtlify take care of the assignment - fair, random and with the option of excluding certain combinations.
Exclusions & fair distribution
Important: Wichtlify creates directed 1:1 mappings (A → B). There is no separate mode for bilateral teams of two or teams of three/four.
You register briefly, create a new group, and give it a name, for example “tandem pairs” or “game night teams”.
1:1 assignments within a Secret Santa group
You enter all the names. Email addresses are optional – you can also just work with names & links.
You can define who should not be matched with whom, for example couples, flatmates, or people from the same department.
Start your assignment draw now
You start the draw and send the personal links to everyone via WhatsApp, email or messenger.
In many groups there are constellations that are not desired: romantic couples, roommates, colleagues from the same department or certain roles that should not meet.
Practical tips for private groups, teams and community rounds
This is how you combine chance and control: The groups mix without you having to spend hours sorting manually.
These assignments are often combined with a Secret Santa round: you can create a group in which each person is randomly assigned to another person, which works well for partner gifts or shared event roles.
Which functions make the difference here?
The draw is based on a fair 1:1 logic without self-draws. Stored exclusions are actively taken into account in the calculation.
If participant lists change late, you can update the group in a controlled manner and only then start a new draw.
Wichtlify Pro
If you need more control: Wichtlify Pro
For larger or recurring rounds, Wichtlify Pro expands the standard process to include Smart Draw, emergency assistant, auto-reminder, admin broadcasts as well as insights and event status.
This allows you to reduce manual effort, react more quickly to changes and keep the group stable despite high dynamics.
FAQ
What is this suitable for?
It works well for one-to-one pairings inside Secret Santa groups, buddy formats, partner draws, or any setup where each person should be matched fairly with one other person.
Why Wichtlify instead of Notes & Excel?
Because exclusions, updates, and assignments stay in one place. That makes pairings easier to explain and much less error-prone than manual lists.
